MARINA DEL REY, Calif., Jan. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Heritage California ACO (HCACO), an affiliate of Heritage Provider Network (HPN), announced today they will transition from the Pioneer ACO Model to Next Gen ACO. HCACO will work with CMS to provide Medicare beneficiaries with higher quality care, while reducing growth in Medicare expenditures through enhanced care coordination.
"As we move forward with this transition from the Pioneer ACO Model to Next Gen ACO, we will be able to provide more opportunities to increase the level of care that is so vital to all of our members," said Dr. Richard Merkin, President and CEO of HPN. "For over 30 years, we at HPN have encouraged and supported an accountable care model of healthcare- a model predicated on providing care that is of the highest quality, that improves the health of our members, and that lowers their healthcare costs. We look forward to accelerating these practices with the Next Gen ACO Model."
Heritage California ACO was the largest of the Pioneer ACO's and participated in the program from 2012-2015. Heritage California ACO has contracted close to 1,000 participating providers and 5,000 preferred providers for Next Gen ACO.
"We look forward to working with our newly selected Next Generation ACO model participants to move our health care system toward one that delivers better care, smarter spending, and healthier people," said Patrick Conway, M.D., Deputy Administrator and Chief Medical Officer for CMS. "This ACO model responds to stakeholder requests for the next stage of the ACO model that enables greater engagement of beneficiaries, a more predictable, prospective financial model, and the flexibility to utilize additional tools to coordinate care for beneficiaries."
