This latest offering builds on the popular "Dogs of the Dow" strategy, which selects the top 10 stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average that have the highest current dividend yield at that point in time. The High 20 Dividend Strategy Trust, on the other hand, looks beyond the Dow Jones Industrial Average to select the top five stocks with the highest current dividend yield across four different S&P indices, provided that the stocks have experienced better total return performances versus their associated indices over the trailing one-year, three-year and five-year time frames. The four S&P indices are as follows:
- S&P 500® Index
- S&P MidCap 400® Index
- S&P SmallCap 600® Index
- S&P ADR Index
"We believe that dividend investment strategies are worthy of consideration in many investment portfolios and that dividends remain a critical ingredient in the total return of many investments," said Bill Walsh, Partner of Hennion & Walsh.
The SmartTrust® High 20 Dividend Strategy Trust's primary objective will be to maximize total return potential through capital appreciation and current dividend income. This objective will be pursued through investments in a diversified portfolio of 20 issues of common stocks of domestic and foreign companies that meet the Trust's screening criteria.
"This new UIT expands upon the well-known Dogs of the Dow investment strategy and addresses some of what we consider to be its shortcomings, namely the lack of diversification and blindness to historical total returns," said Kevin Mahn, President and Chief Investment Officer of Hennion & Walsh Asset Management.
Hennion & Walsh's product suite includes 22 UITs, including the most recent launches. UITs usually invest in a fixed portfolio for a predetermined amount of time, and let individuals invest in multiple securities with a single purchase. Each portfolio is uniquely formulated to handle specific investment needs and goals, taking into consideration factors such as liquidity, income requirements, risk and diversification.
"This addition to our SmartTrust® UIT platform repertoire reflects our commitment to helping individual investors protect and grow their assets while avoiding excess risk," said Rich Hennion, Partner of Hennion & Walsh. "Our disciplined and closely supervised UIT products offer diversified income solutions to investors who are looking for alternatives in this challenging yield environment."
