Heart Failure Society of America Awards Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Sidney Goldstein

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., Sept. 25, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) will award the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for the tenth time in its history. The 2015 recipient is Sidney Goldstein, MD. Dr. Goldstein lives in Detroit, MI.

Dr. Goldstein has been a member of the Heart Failure Society of America since its founding, and served on its Executive Council. Dr. Goldstein's early research focused on the mechanism of sudden death, and was supported with funds from the NHLBI. In addition, he played a major role in defining the importance of beta blocker therapy in patients with acute myocardial infarction, and for the treatment of heart failure patients.

Dr. Goldstein earned his BA degree from Cornell University and his MD degree at Cornell Medical College. He received his Medical house staff training at Cornell –New York Hospital, where he served as a research fellow in Cardiology, sponsored by the American Heart Association. He also served as a medical officer with the United States Army in Germany. At the completion of his training, he was appointed Head of Cardiology at the Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY, and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

He remains active in the initiation and management of clinical trials in heart disease, and still serves on many data safety monitoring committees. He has published extensively on clinical research in the area of sudden death and the pharmacologic therapy in heart failure, and lectured nationally and internationally. He is Co-Editor of Heart Failure Reviews and Medical Editor of Cardiology News. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and two books, and served on a number of editorial boards, including the Journal of Cardiac Failure.
