HealthPlus completes Medicaid business sale as first physician president assumes leadership
New chief financial officer joins team to chart course for continued positive performance
FLINT, Mich., Sept. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthPlus today announced the completion of the sale of its Medicaid and MIChild businesses to Molina Healthcare of Michigan. Molina Healthcare of Michigan will assume HealthPlus Partners' Medicaid contract and HealthPlus of Michigan's MIChild contract, as well as certain provider agreements. HealthPlus Partners and HealthPlus of Michigan currently arrange for health care services for approximately 90,000 Medicaid and 6,000 MIChild patients.
"Today is a great day for HealthPlus," said Michael Genord, M.D., the company's new president and CEO. "With this sale we stabilize the company and mark months of hard work to improve operations and turn around our performance so that we can effectively respond to the challenges of an evolving health care environment. Our promise has always been to deliver high-quality care and unsurpassed member service at a reasonable cost. The changes we've made, and will continue to make, will allow us to deliver on that promise."
Dr. Genord joined HealthPlus as chief medical officer in 2013 and is the first physician to lead the company. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, managed a private practice for 17 years before joining HealthPlus, and has held several leadership roles at William Beaumont Hospital and United Physicians. Dr. Genord, who holds an M.B.A. from the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management, was intimately involved in the Medicaid and MIChild sale to Molina Healthcare.
"HealthPlus is a leader in value-based medicine and member benefits with a deep tradition of close and mutually beneficial relationships with physicians throughout its mid-Michigan core service area. We'll be focusing on this foundational aspect of the company to continue building and innovating future success," said Dr. Genord.
Also new to the HealthPlus leadership team is Chief Financial Officer Keith Collin, CPA. With more than 20 years in health care leadership positions, Collin gained high-level experience in health plan and hospital management; detailed auditing and financial reporting; and large health care organizational turnaround.
The Molina transaction is only a part of the restructuring HealthPlus has undertaken as part of its transformation. Other organizational initiatives have included company-wide cost cutting, reorganizing teams to improve efficiencies and improving care coordination. These changes have helped make HealthPlus more viable and positioned for future growth.
"I want to thank our dedicated team members for never missing a beat with our members and providers," said Dr. Genord. "Their hard work every day is a significant factor in the rebirth of HealthPlus. Additionally, everyone here at HealthPlus has been touched by the support and well wishes of our agents, our employer groups and members, and the good people in the many communities we serve."
