Health IT Company CipherHealth Lends Support to Digital Girl, Inc.
NEW YORK, May 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- While women, on average, hold less than 25 percent of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) jobs nationally, non-profit Start-up Digital Girl, Inc. is working with young girls to pursue these very careers. CipherHealth, a leading provider of innovations and solutions designed to help healthcare providers improve patient care, took notice of the work being done by Digital Girl and created a marketing program to raise money for the Brooklyn-based start-up.
By gathering the support of women at the recent CipherHealth-sponsored HIMSS15 Women in Health IT Networking Reception in Chicago, representatives from CipherHealth were able to present a donation check to Digital Girl while on a visit to their Bedford-Stuyvesant facility.
A featured speaker at the Women in Health IT Networking Reception, CipherHealth's Product Manager Kate Huber noted during her remarks that her gender was never put ahead of her thoughts or her work, and how important it is for health IT companies to focus on gender diversity. This approach toward work and career aligns with Digital Girl, where the goal is to inspire girls at an early age to pursue careers where women have historically lacked a presence, namely STEM.
"It's no longer about whether women can't or shouldn't have certain jobs, rather it's about putting the wind in their sails and inspiring them to pursue these fulfilling and valuable careers wholeheartedly," said Huber. "Digital Girl is doing just that in the most remarkable ways, and we are as excited about the impact they are having on these girls today as we are for the future of women in STEM-focused careers."
"We truly appreciate the recognition and support of CipherHealth," said Michelle Gall, Founder of Digital Girl, Inc. "As a company that clearly supports and values gender equality, CipherHealth provides a positive picture of what the future can hold for the children enrolled in our program, and for that especially, we are thankful."
Added CipherHealth's Data Scientist Tetiana Nosach: "Health IT is too interesting to leave it to the men!"
