HBO Wins 19 Primetime Emmy® Awards
HBO receives the most awards out of any network, this year; "Boardwalk Empire" led the way with 8 awards. The show's second season will premiere October 2nd in the Caribbean and October 9th in Latin America.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- HBO® received 19 Primetime Emmy® Awards, the most presented to any television network, at the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy® Awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday evening in Los Angeles. "Boardwalk Empire," the second season of which will premiere in the Caribbean on October 2nd and in Latin America on October 9th, took home 8 awards, including recognition to Martin Scorsese for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. The list of award-winning series also includes "Mildred Pierce," winner of 5 Emmys® and "Game of Thrones," with 2 awards.
Among the honors rendered were 15 Creative Arts® Emmys, making HBO the leader in this category, including 7 awards for "Boardwalk Empire" and 3 for "Mildred Pierce."
The awards received by the network this year reflect the quality of HBO's original programming, as well as the great variety of its television series, films and special documentaries, which range from drama and science fiction to romance, suspense, comedy and other genres.
HBO's Emmy®award-winning productions for 2011 are:
- 8 Emmys® for "Boardwalk Empire," including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Martin Scorsese), Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Casting and Outstanding Art Direction.
- 5 Emmys® for "Mildred Pierce," including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie (Kate Winslet), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie (Guy Pearce) and Outstanding Art Direction for a Miniseries or Movie.
- 2 Emmys® for "Game of Thrones," including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Peter Dinklage) and Outstanding Main Title Design.
Other HBO programs to receive Emmy® Awards include: the HBO Films original, "Cinema Verite" for Outstanding Editing for a Miniseries or Movie; "Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: at Madison Square Garden" for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Special; "Gasland" for Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming and "A Child's Garden of Poetry" for Outstanding Children's Program.
As part of HBO's programming in Latin America, "Mad Men" was also recognized with 2 Emmys®, including Outstanding Drama Series.
