Hart Gets Funding on Critical Indirect Land Use Change Project for Biofuels

HOUSTON, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Hart Energy Consulting is pleased to announce the consultancy has received funding from both the Lucille and David Packard Foundation and the Energy Foundation for the project "Land Use Change: Science and Policy Review." This project is being undertaken by the global consultancy with CABI, a not-for-profit science-based development and information organization based in the Netherlands that provides information and applies scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment. This review will evaluate the current status of indirect land use change (ILUC) as it relates to biofuels and include an assessment of agricultural, environmental, economic, social and potential market impacts from applying or not applying land use change factors into policymaking. The review will also include an overview of the current status of global regulatory and legislative actions to address ILUC.

"This science and policy review on ILUC comes at a critical time as governments around the world are setting and implementing biofuels policies and becoming increasingly concerned about controlling greenhouse gas emissions," said Tammy Klein, executive director of the Global Biofuels Center, a service of Hart Energy Consulting, and the project leader for Hart. "Policymakers and other stakeholders need insight on this very complex issue and this is what the review will aim to accomplish."
