Hamilton Relay Appoints New Outreach Coordinator for Relay Utah
Emily Simmonds to Lead Awareness Efforts for Relay Throughout State
AURORA, Neb., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Hamilton Relay today announced the appointment of Emily Simmonds as the new outreach coordinator for Relay Utah. In this role, Simmonds will lead education and awareness programs to ensure that residents who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or have difficulty speaking will have access to Hamilton Relay services.
"In January 2010, Hamilton Relay was awarded the state contract for Utah to provide relay telecommunications services. Simmonds brings a wealth of experience to support our team with our education efforts and we are fortunate to have her," said Julie Orchard, Relay Utah state administrator. "In addition, we look forward to working with Hamilton Relay to implement new programs in the state and in turn, unite the communities of individuals who can benefit from the relay service and our telephone distribution program."
Relay is a free and easy-to-use communication service that connects people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have difficulty speaking with people who use standard telephones. Simmonds will act as a relay expert and serve as a resource for individuals, businesses and organizations to promote the variety of outreach programs available in Utah. She will travel throughout the state to deliver presentations and prepare exhibits in order to help connect individuals with appropriate relay solutions.
"Hamilton Relay provides freedom for individuals to connect over the telephone independently with hearing friends, family and businesses," said Emily Simmonds, outreach coordinator for Relay Utah. "It is rewarding to be joining the outreach team at Relay Utah and represent Hamilton Relay as we work to help continue to reach and inform residents of Utah about the services available to them to help regain their independence and improve their quality of life."
Simmonds has a solid background with American Sign Language and is experienced in deaf culture. As a native of Utah, she is familiar with the different regions of the state and attuned to particular needs in certain areas. Prior to working with Hamilton Relay, Simmonds conducted outreach for Coca-Cola and Microsoft, worked as a high school American Sign Language teacher and is a talented freelance photographer. She enjoys running, biking, tennis and traveling with her husband and three children.
