H. David Kotz, Former SEC Inspector General, Joins Gryphon Strategies as a Managing Director
Will Head New Washington, D.C. Office
NEW YORK, Feb. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Gryphon Strategies (http://www.gryphon-strategies.com), one of New York's premiere corporate investigation firms, today announced that H. David Kotz, the former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Inspector General, has joined the firm as a managing director. Kotz will head Gryphon's new Washington, D.C. office, where he will use his experience in leading complex internal investigations and audits to focus on corporate fraud cases, litigation support and a variety of other investigative matters.
David Kotz's experience, gained as an Inspector General leading major investigations for the SEC and the Peace Corps and in other high-level positions in the federal government, will be invaluable in conducting high profile investigations. "We feel fortunate that David decided to join us here at Gryphon," said Gryphon Strategies CEO Tom Willingham. "David will be a great addition and a great resource for Gryphon's clients."
As Inspector General of the SEC, Kotz personally led several of the most complex, high-profile investigations and audits ever conducted, including a comprehensive investigation of the SEC's failures to uncover Bernie Madoff's $50 billion Ponzi scheme. Those findings, ultimately, were detailed in a 457 page report. Kotz also examined the collapse of Bear Stearns, the SEC's failures to uncover Robert Allen Stanford's $8 billion alleged Ponzi scheme, and the circumstances surrounding the SEC's decision to lease office space at a cost to taxpayers of over $500 million.
"I look forward to joining Gryphon and using the investigative techniques I acquired at the SEC and elsewhere to conduct thorough and comprehensive investigations that assist companies in uncovering corporate fraud and identifying remedial measures," said Kotz. "Gryphon has an outstanding reputation, with a talented group of investigators who specialize in conducting high caliber investigations." Prior to joining the SEC, Kotz served as Inspector General for the Peace Corps, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and practiced as an attorney for international law firms in New York and Washington, D.C.
