GSA Awards Jacobs Houston Federal Building Modernization Contract

PASADENA, Calif., May 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it was awarded a contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Region 7 to provide construction manager as agent and commissioning services for the modernization of the GT "Mickey" Leland Federal Building in downtown Houston.

Officials estimate the construction value to be approximately $70 million. Funding for the project is made available under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.

The 22-story, 496,285 square foot office tower occupies a full city block in the southwestern area of Houston's Central Business District. The 24-year-old building requires building system modernization, repairs and major upgrades to function properly. Work includes replacement of the building's window system; heating, ventilation and air conditioning modernization; accessibility improvements; and upgrades to the lobby plaza and garage. The building is 95 percent occupied with a variety of federal tenants and will remain fully operational during the anticipated four-year construction schedule. The building is targeted to meet a Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, as defined by the US Green Building Council.
