Groundbreaking Interfaith Conference at Nazareth College

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Nazareth College in Rochester, NY is honored to announce it will be home to the groundbreaking 2010 Interfaith Understanding Conference (IUC), being held April 11 – 13.  This will bring together multiple generations of peacemakers and interfaith leaders from across the country, as well as representatives of major interfaith organizations such as the Interfaith Alliance, the Parliament of World Religions, and the North American Interfaith Network.

The conference, organized by the Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue at Nazareth College, will provide an opportunity to explore critical issues with people from all religions, generations, races and genders.  

IUC 2010 promises to be a unique encounter which combines the experience and wisdom of one generation with the creativity and vitality of the next.

High schools, college campuses and religious groups around the world have begun breaking down barriers with interfaith relations and discussions.  The IUC conference will bring small discussions to a larger forum.

Speakers representing five major world religions will encourage participants to explore critical issues of diversity by highlighting eight major themes: next generation, stories of faith, women's interfaith leadership, LGBT and religion, religious stereotypes and prejudices, global interfaith coexistence, business and ethics, and environmental and social justice.  

Keynote speakers include:  Sr. Joan Chittister, OSB, founder and executive director of Benetvision; Dr. Eboo Patel, founder and executive director of the Interfaith Youth Core; Rabbi Brad Hirschfied, author and president of CLAL – the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership; Dr. P. Jayaraman, executive director of Bhavan's Centre; and Sensei Myotai Treace, founder of the Bodies of Water School of Zen Buddhism.
