GridPoint Enables U.S. Postal Service to Reduce Energy Costs in Facilities Nationwide with Energy Management Systems
Supports USPS Goal to Achieve 30 Percent Reduction in Facility Energy Usage
ARLINGTON, Va., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- GridPoint, Inc., an established leader in smart energy solutions, today announced that is has been awarded a contract with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to install energy management systems in selected post office locations across the U.S. This award reflects GridPoint's leadership position in delivering energy management systems that enable enterprises to track and manage energy consumption and reduce operating costs across multi-site facility networks.
New contract follows successful initial installation
The contract follows a pilot in 16 locations that empowered the USPS to achieve significant savings in energy consumption from the installation of GridPoint's advanced monitoring and control systems. The agreement, known as an "Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity" or IDIQ contract, provides for an indefinite quantity of supplies delivered over a three-year period. Under this contract, GridPoint energy management systems may be installed in up to 2,250 USPS locations across the country. The first year of the contract allows for up to 750 locations with the option for two one-year extensions to install systems in an additional 750 locations each year.
"We are excited to support the Postal Service in achieving its energy savings goals by providing an advanced energy management solution that is scalable across the organization," said Peter L. Corsell, Chairman and CEO, GridPoint. "This is one of an integrated suite of products enabling our customers to save money, increase efficiency and adopt clean technologies."
GridPoint's system will support the Postal Service's efforts to achieve its goal of a 30 percent reduction in facility energy use by 2015. USPS has already reduced facility energy intensity (BTUs per square foot) usage by 21 percent since 2003 through widespread conservation efforts.
Energy intelligence provides the key to savings
GridPoint's advanced submetering and energy management systems, used in over 6,000 locations nationwide, help significantly lower utility costs – including electricity, gas and water expense. Detailed energy data allow customers to more clearly understand where energy is being consumed and to take action to save money, reduce maintenance visits and extend the life of critical equipment. Most customers realize a payback on their investment in less than 24 months. The company is also helping enterprise customers embrace renewable generation as part of their overall energy strategy.
