LAS VEGAS, March 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies are scheduled for the new courtrooms and chambers for the Supreme Court of Nevada and Nevada Court of Appeals. The ceremonies will begin at 1:15 on Monday, March 27, 2017, at the 5th Street School followed by ribbon cutting and tours at the Supreme Court of Nevada and Nevada Court of Appeals Building.
The State's top political and judicial leaders will take part in the opening presentation. Political dignitaries include: Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court Michael Cherry; Governor Brian Sandoval; Nevada Supreme Court Justice James Hardesty; Speaker of the House Assemblyman Jason Frierson; Majority Leader Senator Aaron Ford; Minority Leader Senator Michael Roberson; Mayor Carolyn Goodman; Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak; State Bar of Nevada President, Byron Scott; and EHB Companies Building Developer, Yohan Lowie EHB Companies.
LV Land Company LLC, a member of the EHB Companies brand, is the developer of the 26,100 square foot courthouse and chambers building. The Neoclassical design of the building was the product of a collaborative effort among the developer, the Supreme Court, and various State of Nevada divisions. The finest materials were used to match the grace and nobility of the building's purpose.
The Neoclassical architecture is commensurate with law. It is the architecture that stemmed the birth and foundation of democracy in Rome and Athens. The solid, stable, and timeless design falls directly in line with the nobility of the purpose and use of the building. Symmetrical Neoclassical buildings are said to symbolize principles of justice and democracy. Thomas Jefferson drew upon Palladian and Classical ideals when he drew architectural plans for the foundation of Washington DC as the capital of the United States. The architectural continuity with our nation's capital speaks for itself. The dome and stained glass represent the US Capitol, the solid marble columns represent the current U.S. Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, the Rotunda and interior of the courthouse represent the original Supreme Court inside the Library of Congress.
The project's visionary, Yohan Lowie, a principal of EHB Companies, LLC, stated, "the building was built out of masonry structures and clad with natural marble, granite and limestone. It has offices and chambers for the Supreme Court of Nevada and Nevada Court of Appeals and a 72 seat grand courtroom for oral arguments. It was constructed with GREEN principles in mind – seeking to achieve a LEED Gold certification. It is the only LEED Gold State Supreme Courthouse in the country."
