Governor Rendell Writes to Legislative Leaders, Other State Officials Regarding Need for Budgetary Reserves
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today sent the following letter to legislative leaders and the heads of various state government agencies:
Aug. 18, 2010
The Honorable Joseph B. Scarnati, III
Senate of Pennsylvania
Room 292 Main Capitol
Harrisburg, PA 17120
The Honorable Keith R. McCall
PA House of Representatives
Room 139 Main Capitol
Harrisburg, PA 17120
Dear Senator Scarnati and Representative McCall:
We are fortunate that the U.S. Congress voted this month to provide additional federal stimulus funding to the states. In spite of this good news, however, the commonwealth did not receive all of the federal stimulus funding we had anticipated in the enacted 2010-11 budget. For that reason, on Aug. 12, I directed commonwealth agencies to place 1.9 percent of their discretionary budgets into budgetary reserve.
I am writing today to ask you to make the same spending reductions that our commonwealth agencies are making by identifying areas to reduce your department's 2010-11 spend by 1.9 percent. As soon as is reasonably possible, please send documentation as to how you will meet this goal.
Thank you for participating in this joint effort to keep the commonwealth's budget stable as we work to sustain our recovery from the Great Recession.
Sincerely,
Edward G. Rendell, Governor
