Governor Rendell Congratulates Hershey Bears on 11th Calder Cup Win
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today congratulated the Hershey Bears for winning the Calder Cup for the 11th time in the AHL team's history.
"Although a Pennsylvania team did not bring home the NHL's Stanley Cup this year, Pennsylvania's die-hard hockey fans still have good reason to celebrate, thanks to the terrific victory by the Hershey Bears," the Governor said. "I congratulate head coach Mark French, MVP Chris Bourque and the entire Bears team for defeating the Texas Stars in six games and winning the Calder Cup for the second consecutive year."
The Bears have reached the Calder Cup Finals four of the past five seasons, claiming championships in three of those appearances. Last night's victory was the first time in 30 years that the team captured the Calder Cup on home ice.
