WASHINGTON, May 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Latino Coalition, the leading Latino non-profit small business organization founded in 1995 with a commitment of "building communities and partnerships for a stronger America," announced today that former Massachusetts Governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney will address its Annual Economic Summit to be held at Noon on Wednesday, May 23 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce building at 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20062.
Previously announced, Senator Marco Rubio will provide an important keynote address focusing on timely policy issues of particular interest to the business community and The Latino Coalition's members. Senator Rubio will speak at 2:30 PM, during the afternoon plenary session.
The Latino Coalition's Annual Economic Summit attracts a who's who of U.S. policymakers and national business leaders as well as hundreds of Latino small business owners from across the country. The event, held during National Small Business Week (occurring May 20-26 this year), will focus on procurement, business development, and trade opportunities.
"Governor Romney's record as a successful business leader, CEO of the organizing committee for the Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, and elected official is replete with cases where he served as an effective advocate for American small businesses," said Hector V. Barreto, The Latino Coalition's Chairman and the former Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (2001-2006). "During his time in government, he proved himself to be a strong advocate for eliminating the red tape that can strangle businesses, a quality that is all the more critical today."
"Governor Romney's call for a renewed focus on jobs and economic growth and a smaller, smarter and simpler government are precisely what our members all across the nation tell me they are focused on," Barreto said.
The Latino Coalition has been a leader in business-to-business procurement matches and small business education. The organization is known for surrounding small businesses with the keys to success including the "The Four C's" – access to capital, capacity building, contracting opportunities and reducing cost.
This year The Latino Coalition's Annual Economic Summit comes on the heels of its annual participation in America's Small Business Summit, an event organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This year The Latino Coalition will host hundreds of business delegates from throughout the United States as well as international small business delegations from Mexico, Colombia and Bolivia.
