Governor Corbett Proclaims May 9 as State Employee Recognition Day
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In appreciation of the hard work and dedication of state employees on behalf of the people of Pennsylvania, Governor Tom Corbett has proclaimed May 9 as State Employee Recognition Day.
"State employees are on the front lines each day, working to make state government more efficient and responsive for the people of Pennsylvania," said Corbett. "I am honored to serve alongside them, and inspired by the commitment they bring to their jobs."
State Employee Recognition Day was established in 2001 by the National Association of State Personnel Executives (NASPE) and the National Governors Association. According to NASPE, there are nearly 2 million state government employees across the nation. In Pennsylvania, nearly 73,000 full-time employees work in state agencies under the governor's jurisdiction.
"State workers provide critical services upon which millions of Pennsylvanians depend," said Corbett. "They also make valuable contributions to our communities. They are our friends and our neighbors, and they deserve our gratitude."
