Governor Corbett Joins Crossing of America Tour in Butler, Highlights Effort to Support Wounded Warriors, Survivors of Fallen Heroes
BUTLER, Pa., July 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Taking his turn at driving a red, white and blue Jeep, Governor Tom Corbett today joined the Crossing of America Tour as it traveled through Butler.
The Crossing of America Tour is a national campaign to pay tribute, create awareness and raise funds for wounded warriors and fallen heroes and their families by touring the country in the Spirit of Liberty Jeep.
"I'm pleased to join this effort in support of our troops and our wounded warriors," Governor Corbett said. "So many of our friends, family and neighbors have volunteered to fight for our freedoms, and it is our duty at home to honor their sacrifices."
To raise awareness, celebrities, sports figures, military veterans, government leaders and others are invited to drive during the tour. Governor Corbett drove the Spirit of Liberty Jeep from Butler's City Hall to a point on Woody Drive.
The nationwide tour began May 27 aboard the deck of the USS Midway in San Diego Harbor. It will conclude Sept. 8 on the deck of the USS Intrepid in New York Harbor, just before the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The 105-day tour is covering a total of 43 states and the District of Columbia and is expected to cover nearly 20,000 miles.
