Governor Corbett Honors Families of Fallen Philadelphia Police Officers
PHILADELPHIA, May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett today thanked the families of fallen Philadelphia police officers, vowing to "never forget the contribution and sacrifice of every man and woman who has worn a badge.''
Corbett spoke at the Annual Survivors' Tribute Luncheon, sponsored by the Philadelphia Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police. The luncheon, which followed a Living Flame Ceremony in Franklin Square, honors the families of the fallen police officers and their combined sacrifice.
About 300 family members were expected to attend this year's event.
"When a man or woman chooses a life in law enforcement, they choose a hard path," Corbett said. "They alone don't live with the consequences of that choice. Their families and friends also live with that decision; these families and friends also serve.
"Their sacrifice and our loss remain guideposts that tell us peace and freedom are not simply given; they are won by sacrifice,'' Corbett added.
