Gotham Government Relations Fighting in Defense of Off-Shore Medical Programs
Advocates Brad Gerstman And David Schwartz Involved In The Fight For A Better New York
ROSLYN, N.Y., Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Gotham Government Relations, a New York based government relations, lobbying, and advocacy firm, is offering its support of Off-Shore Medical Programs that wish to work with New York Hospitals. Gotham is opposed to those who want to limit the number of these programs, for a variety of reasons. Brad Gerstman, Partner at Gotham, sits on the board of the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), which enables him to understand this area better than anyone in New York.
"At a time when our society is becoming an aging population, we would be extremely short-sighted and potentially create a medical nightmare if we began to impose limitations on the number of qualified doctors we let practice here in our hospitals," says Gerstman.
With experts predicting a shortage of 90,000 doctors in the United States by 2020, Caribbean Medical Schools fill in a void. Additionally, because of the money paid to the U.S. Hospitals by these Caribbean schools, hospitals such as NUMC where 61 out of 161 training students come from the Caribbean, are able to complete much-needed renovations.
"We are being told over and over again by our medical experts that doctors are leaving New York State because of reduced funding, pay, and sky-rocketing insurance premiums," says David Schwartz, Partner at Gotham. "Then on the other hand, our New York-based medical schools are seeking to limit the population of doctors in the state. They can't have it both ways, and in the interests of public safety and fair market practices, it would be bad policy to impose such limitations on qualified medical professionals based on their origin of schooling."
Gotham Government Relations is involved in this issue, and is fighting for a better New York. The facts remain that those in Caribbean schools have passed the same standardized testing as those in New York schools, and since NY colleges aren't losing applicants, Gotham is standing up for the rights of the Caribbean schools and is determined to end the discrimination against these studying doctors at Caribbean universities.
