According to Global Microservers Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2019, the global microserver market is expected to register high growth from 2013 to 2018, with the microserver shipments forecast to reach 4.7 million units by 2019. In 2013, global IT spending reached USD3.6 trillion, out of which SMB IT spending was at USD870.8 billion. In the same year, HP emerged as the largest player in the global microserver market, accounting for majority of the share, followed by Fujitsu, Quanta Computers and Dell. Although, blade form factor based microservers are currently more expensive than Tower/Micro-Servers, the prices are expected to decline on account of increasing adoption and growing mobile computing market over the next five years. The key market trends that would hugely affect the future course of the global microservers market include growth in data centers, cloud computing, BYOD and Big Data markets.
HP was the first company to introduce Tower/Micro Tower form factor based microserver, targeted at SMB application segment. In the global microserver market, SMB application segment accounted for majority of the revenue share in 2013, followed by data centers and others. In blade form factor based microservers segment, Dell was the first company to introduce its line of microserver system (XS11-VX8) in 2009. This system is inserted in a 3U chassis equipped with 12 microserver modules and shared power and cooling systems. Though, overall server market was in a state of decline, the global microserver market registered exponential growth during the period 2010-13. Europe and North America are the leading revenue generating regions in the overall microservers market. Asia-Pacific on the other hand, accounted for the third largest revenue share in 2013.
