LANDOVER, Md., Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Giant Food today announced a total donation of $75,000 to help with relief and recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey. A cash donation of $50,000 will be made to The American Red Cross. In the coming weeks, an additional donation of $25,000 in needed products will be donated directly to the impacted communities to assist those affected by the natural disaster.
"An event like this reminds us that we are all members of a larger community. When we think of those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, we know that could be our family, friends or neighbors and must help in every way we can," said Gordon Reid, President, Giant Food of Landover, Md. "This will be a long road to recovery in the affected areas, and we pledge our support to make donations on behalf of our company and also act as a donation collection point so that our local community can also find a way to help."
Giant Food stores will be collecting food and other necessary supplies, Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Tuesday, Sept. 12 in collaboration with the Capital Area Food Bank. The public will be able to donate the following items:
- Ready-to-eat foods including nuts, granola bars, and other snacks
- Shelf-stable pantry items such as peanut butter, tuna and soup
- Personal hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.)
- Diapers and other baby items
- Sorry, no glass, water, or liquid cleaning supplies will be accepted
Items can be dropped off at local Giant Food stores throughout the metropolitan area.
