ATLANTA, May 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia Power announced today that Craig Barrs has been named executive vice president of the company's Customer Service & Operations organization. Barrs replaces Anthony Wilson, who recently accepted the role of executive vice president of operations at Georgia Power's sister company, Mississippi Power. Chris Cummiskey has been elected by the company's board of directors to succeed Barrs as executive vice president of Georgia Power's External Affairs organization. Barrs and Cummiskey will assume their new roles effective May 9.
"Both Craig and Chris possess the leadership traits, dedication to our customers and commitment to excellence, innovation and value that consistently place us among the best in the industry for customer satisfaction, reliability and low prices," said Paul Bowers, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power. "Their leadership and experiences will strengthen our efforts to deliver world-class value to our customers and the communities we serve."
In his new position, Barrs will lead Georgia Power's customer service efforts for 2.4 million customers and oversee the construction, design and maintenance of the company's electric system, as well as direct region operations and corporate services. Since joining Georgia Power in 1981, Barrs has held multiple leadership roles throughout the company, including vice president of Community & Economic Development and Governmental Affairs, as well as president and CEO of Savannah Electric, prior to that company's merger with Georgia Power.
Cummiskey joins Georgia Power from Southern Power, a Southern Company subsidiary that provides wholesale energy across the United States. At Southern Power, Cummiskey served as chief commercial officer and led the expansion of wholesale marketing activities, including business development, acquisitions and asset management. Immediately prior to that, Cummiskey served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, where he worked to grow business in Georgia marking more than 500 new company locations or expansions, thousands of new jobs and billions of dollars in economic development for the state.
