Gekkeikan Horin Sake Honored With Prestigious Monde Selection Grand Gold Medal for Quality

Horin has been awarded its highest honor for the past five consecutive years.

Horin represents the ultimate achievement of the sake brewer's art. A limited production Junmai Daiginjo, it is handcrafted in small batches at the Ginjo Brewing Section of the Ootegura brewery, where only premium and ultra-premium sakes are micro brewed. Gekkeikan's Ootegura brewery is located in the heart of the famous Fushimi region of the Kyoto Prefecture.  

The word Fushimi, meaning 'hidden water', refers to the pristine waters of the region, renowned for their softness and low mineral content, making them ideal for slowly fermenting sake at low temperatures.  Coupled with the skill of the Sake master and the prestigious sake rice varietals Yamada Nishiki (known as the 'king of sake rice') and Gohyakumangoku, which are milled to 50% their original size, the result is Horin, a classic Fushimi style Junmai Daiginjo.  

Horin is lightly fragrant, with a delicately fruity nose and subtle flavors. Round and smooth on the palate, it has a medium, creamy body and a long, clean finish.

Monde Selection is an Independent International Institute founded in 1961 on a Belgian initiative in Brussels, making it the oldest and most representative organization in the field of Quality Selections in the world. Each year an average of over 1500 products are presented to the Institute from 70+ countries in order to assess their quality standards. Monde Selection Grand Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded based on the evaluations of its juries of experts to the best entries in various food and beverage categories.
