Gaumard Debuts New Susie S901 NursingTrainer at INACSL 2017
MIAMI, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A newborn suddenly develops pneumonia, a teenager has an asthma attack and a woman complains of shortness of breath and sudden, increasing chest pain. These are three of the many new simulations that Gaumard Scientific Company and its nurse educators developed for Super Tory® and for the debut of the new Susie S901 Nursing Simulator today through June 24 in Booth 310 at The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning's annual conference in Washington, DC.
New Susie S901 Nursing Simulator
The new Susie S901 Nursing Simulator includes 10 scenarios with accompanying educational guides developed to meet the National Council of State Boards of Nursing's NCLEX-RN test plans; the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Interprofessional Education Collaborative, Quality & Safety Education for Nurses; and Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing guidelines.
"The Susie S901 sets the bar as the most complete, nurse-focused solution available by offering educators not just an advanced patient simulator, but also the educational materials needed to achieve great educational results quickly," Gaumard executive vice president John Eggert said.
"The Susie S901 educational package was developed to deliver outcome-focused results while being easy to use and affordable. Susie S901 expands Gaumard's broad nursing simulator product offering, which includes the Susie S2000, S1001 and Super Chloe S222.100. We have solutions for every need and budget."
Training on the S901, for example, enables nurses to demonstrate care of a patient with an asthma attack. Learners can rehearse recognizing the signs and symptoms of today's most common complications and manage the patient using evidence-based protocols.
The S901 offers a comparable level of training for COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, new onset diabetes and hypoglycemia.
Super Tory
Super Tory is a newborn patient simulator so realistic that it accurately responds to real mechanical ventilation in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Respiratory problems are one of the leading causes for neonatal intensive care unit admissions, with nearly 10 percent of newborns needing some form of respiratory assistance. With Super Tory, NICU nurses and respiratory care teams can rehearse resuscitation and care protocols using real equipment to improve speed and efficiency.
Super Tory's lifelike limb and facial movements and programmable skin coloration simulate a wide range of visual cues seen in ill as well as healthy newborns. Starting with APGAR scoring, every visual assessment provides a wealth of health information.
John Eggert, Gaumard's executive vice president, said, "We designed Super Tory with unparalleled anatomical and physiological accuracy to ensure that nurses are prepared for high-risk, low-frequency emergencies."
"Super Tory provides lifelike realism to a degree never seen before in neonatal simulation."
Real-Time Monitoring
Nurses can monitor Super Tory with real medical equipment as they train to assess newborns for such conditions as early onset sepsis, hyperbilirubinemia, and pneumonia with pneumothorax.
Critical metrics such as ECG-derived respiratory monitoring, pre- and post-ductal SpO2, NIBP and capillary refill time can be evaluated in real time. And Super Tory can be paced and defibrillated using real energy, just as in a live clinical situation. Her facial expressions, chest wall movement and programmable arm and leg movements provide valuable information for care givers.
Super Tory's lifelike lungs feature programmable levels of compliance, can achieve normal chest rise with as little as 15 cmH2O, and can illustrate the high recoil associated with stiff lungs. For the first time, students and professionals can simulate all stages of respiratory management, including diagnosis, treatment, weaning and rehabilitation, as they would in real situations.
Super Tory is wireless and tetherless to ensure continuity of care as she moves from the labor and delivery room to the NICU. She can be utilized in training scenarios anytime, anywhere and remains fully functional in transit due to an internal, rechargeable battery that provides up to eight hours of operation -- an unprecedented technological feat in a simulator that is just eight pounds and 21 inches.
This is the first neonatal simulator to offer heart and lung functionality as well as motion in a mobile platform -- capabilities that allow Super Tory to simulate complex pathologies and respond to interventions with unparalleled realism.
Super Tory includes ten scenarios and an accompanying guidebook that cover both common and rare clinical cases seen throughout the continuum of care of neonates.
Super Tory further expands the Gaumard neonatal high fidelity product line, which already includes Newborn Hal® and Newborn Tory®, for those who demand an even higher level of fidelity including physical movement and actual mechanical ventilation. These features enable learners to experience advanced-level scenarios as in actual clinical practice.
