Market Definition
The gas utilities market covers all natural gas consumption, net of distribution or transmission losses, by end-users in the following categories: industrial (including use as a feedstock and autogeneration), commercial and public-sector organization, residential consumer, electric power generation (including combined heat and power but excluding autogeneration and heat plant), and other (including transport, agriculture, centralized heat plant, and other usage). Values are calculated from segment volumes and the average annual price of gas charged to end-users in each segment net of any applicable taxes. In some countries, synthetic gas (also called syngas, coal gas, city gas, etc) or biogas (generated from waste materials) may be used in a similar manner to natural gas, and has therefore been included in the market volume. To take into account the different energy content of such gases, all calculations were carried out in energy units, and then converted to bcf using the conversion factor for natural gas. Market shares were calculated as the total volume of gas sold to external end-users in all segments, divided by the total market volume. To avoid the risk of double-counting, gas volumes that were distributed to end-users on behalf of another retailer under third-party network access agreements are not included. Wholesale, trading, and storage volumes are excluded (except for Russia where both wholesale and retail volumes are included). For companies which operate in both gas and power sectors, any self-supply to their own gas-fired generation plant is excluded. All currency conversions are at constant average annual 2011 exchange rates.TABLE OF CONTENTSEXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2Market value 2Market value forecast 2Market volume 2Market volume forecast 2Category segmentation 2Geography segmentation 2Market share 2Introduction 26What is this report about? 26Who is the target reader? 26How to use this report 26Definitions 26Global Gas Utilities 27Market Overview 27Market Data 28Market Segmentation 30Market outlook 33Five forces analysis 35Gas Utilities in Asia-Pacific 43Market Overview 43Market Data 44Market Segmentation 46Market outlook 49Five forces analysis 51Gas Utilities in Europe 59Market Overview 59Market Data 60Market Segmentation 62Market outlook 65Five forces analysis 67Gas Utilities in France 74Market Overview 74Market Data 75Market Segmentation 77Market outlook 80Five forces analysis 82Macroeconomic indicators 88Gas Utilities in Germany 90Market Overview 90Market Data 91Market Segmentation 93Market outlook 96Five forces analysis 98Macroeconomic indicators 104Gas Utilities in Italy 106Market Overview 106Market Data 107Market Segmentation 109Market outlook 112Five forces analysis 114Macroeconomic indicators 120Gas Utilities in Japan 122Market Overview 122Market Data 123Market Segmentation 125Market outlook 128Five forces analysis 130Macroeconomic indicators 136Gas Utilities in Belgium 138Market Overview 138Market Data 139Market Segmentation 141Market outlook 144Five forces analysis 146Macroeconomic indicators 152Gas Utilities in Canada 154Market Overview 154Market Data 155Market Segmentation 157Market outlook 160Five forces analysis 162Macroeconomic indicators 169Gas Utilities in China 171Market Overview 171Market Data 172Market Segmentation 174Market outlook 177Five forces analysis 179Macroeconomic indicators 185Gas Utilities in The Netherlands 187Market Overview 187Market Data 188Market Segmentation 190Market outlook 193Five forces analysis 195Macroeconomic indicators 201Gas Utilities in Spain 203Market Overview 203Market Data 204Market Segmentation 206Market outlook 209Five forces analysis 211Macroeconomic indicators 217Gas Utilities in The United Kingdom 219Market Overview 219Market Data 220Market Segmentation 222Market outlook 225Five forces analysis 227Macroeconomic indicators 233Gas Utilities in The United States 235Market Overview 235Market Data 236Market Segmentation 238Market outlook 241Five forces analysis 243Macroeconomic indicators 251Company Profiles 253Leading companies 253Appendix 371Methodology 371
