MEXICO CITY, Feb. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies deeply committed to the modernization of the countries in which they operate —created by Mexican entrepreneur Ricardo Salinas (www.ricardosalinas.com)— announced today that Fundacion Azteca —Grupo Salinas' non-profit arm— has officially inaugurated activities of Fundacion Azteca El Salvador.
In an event attended by El Salvador President Mauricio Funes, Grupo Salinas Chairman Ricardo Salinas, El Salvador government officials, and senior executives of Grupo Salinas, Fundacion Azteca El Salvador presented social action programs to improve living standards. These include an awareness program about the risks of drug consumption, a community clean-up program, emergency assistance programs and the implementation of an Esperanza Azteca youth orchestra system to encourage the formation of responsible and participative citizens through music.
Fundacion Azteca El Salvador is added to the ongoing action of Fundacion Azteca in Mexico, the United States, Guatemala, and Peru, with the goal of giving individuals the means to help themselves. Since its creation in 1997, the institution has raised almost Ps.1,000 million to help more than a million people through targeted social action organizations; it has also distributed more than 60 million toys to needy children; and has received about three million calls at its Vive Sin Drogas hotline.
Over the past two years, Fundacion Azteca has also mobilized more than three million people to pick up 12,000 tons of trash, raising awareness regarding the environment; it has organized the Esperanza Azteca musical program —in which more than 5,000 children from low-income families participate in 23 orchestras in 18 states throughout Mexico; and it underwrites a technical high school for more than 2,300 outstanding low-income students with Plantel Azteca.
During a press conference prior to the inauguration, Esteban Moctezuma, Executive President of Fundacion Azteca, explained the scope of the foundation and the plans for 2011 to help create a better future.
Grupo Salinas is strongly committed to the strengthening of the societies in which it operates, and today Fundacion Azteca takes the first step of action in favor of the most vulnerable groups of El Salvador.
