Full Spectrum Endoscopy from EndoChoice Featured in Live Procedures
International Courses Draw More than 1,500 Doctors
NEW YORK, Jan. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fuse™, Full Spectrum Endoscopy™ system from EndoChoice® was featured in continuing medical education courses last month for audiences of gastroenterologists from around the world. At the Amsterdam Live Endoscopy course in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and the 37th Annual New York Course, sponsored by the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (NYSGE) in New York, NY, procedures on patients requiring gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopic examinations were performed at nearby hospitals and broadcast into meeting locations to combined audiences of more than 1,500 medical professionals.
In Amsterdam, the attendees were able to see how the Fuse System's 330 degree field of view during colonoscopy provided improved screening, diagnosis and surveillance of diseases of the GI tract in a patient with severe polyposis; a condition in which polyps and pre-cancerous lesions develop throughout the entire colon.
In New York, the GI specialists in attendance were able to see the first-ever live case broadcast featuring the world's first gastroscope with two imagers allowing a 245 degree field of view. The recently introduced Fuse gastroscope was used to diagnose and treat a patient with swallowing disorders. In a subsequent patient, the Fuse colonoscope was used while the audience learned of a recent clinical study wherein standard, forward viewing colonoscopes missed 42% of the adenomas, or pre-cancerous lesions, found by the Fuse colonoscope.
"The Fuse system completely changes the field of endoscopy at a time when the importance of seeing more anatomy and improving the quality of GI endoscopy is at the forefront," said David Carr-Locke, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Chief, Division of Digestive Diseases, Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, NY. "We have never before had tools that allow us to get such impressive views of the upper and lower GI anatomy."
"Our customers using the Fuse system can tell you, they are finding suspicious lesions that would likely have been missed if the patient had received an endoscopy with a traditional scope," said Mark Gilreath, Founder and CEO of EndoChoice. "We are pleased to bring this new technology to the GI caregivers that do so much for our families and patients around the world."
About the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
The New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (NYSGE) was founded in 1974 by Drs. Henry Colcher, Howard J. Eddy Jr., Richard McCray, Paul Sherlock, Hiromi Shinya, Jerome D. Waye, Sidney J. Winawer and David S. Zimmon, with the goal of developing a New York working group of friends to teach each other and disseminate their collective knowledge of gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Over the years, the Society has flourished and today is comprised of more than 300 attending members and over 200 fellows. NYSGE is the largest regional endoscopic society in the United States. To fulfill its mission of education and research, the Society hosts numerous seminars throughout the year, including an annual summer endoscopy course for new fellows, and sponsors the Annual New York Course, a major postgraduate endoscopy conference each December. NYSGE also endows the $10,000 Florence Lefcourt Award, which is presented for endoscopic research or community outreach initiatives. For further information, please visit www.nysge.org.
