BOSTON, June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The countdown has officially ended! After an extensive search, dozens of submissions, thousands of votes, and weeks of designing, Tommee Tippee is ready to reveal the transformation of the scariest pump room in America. The new pump room will be unveiled on Wednesday, June 28, during a Facebook Live broadcast at 1:00 PM EST on the Tommee Tippee Facebook page.
Tommee Tippee's Scary Pump Rooms contest, hosted in partnership with Scary Mommy, set out to find the most uninspired lactation room in the country and flip it. The winners, Stacey DiIenno and Sarah Sozio, teachers at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Newark, Delaware, have been pumping in a crowded server room all year. On Wednesday, they will get to see their pump room transformed from drab to fab.
Tommee Tippee, alongside the design team at Project Nursery, redesigned, renovated, and fully stocked the school's pump room, creating a welcoming and comfortable retreat for the deserving winners and their colleagues. The school's new space includes two pumping stations with cozy chairs, plenty of storage, refrigerator, sink and a host of Tommee Tippee Pump and Go breast milk storage products. Pump and Go makes pumping and feeding easier by using a single pouch to go from pumping to feeding. It brings milk from breast to baby bottle without the risk of losing even one hard-earned drop.
"Every breastfeeding mom who pumps at work deserves a clean, comfortable, and private space to pump breast milk for their baby," said Sharon Swan, Brand Director of Tommee Tippee North America. "Our mission with Scary Pump Rooms was to raise awareness of the issue and to impact change for working moms. The entries we received reaffirmed the need for workplaces to take a closer look at the spaces and support they provide to pumping moms who work. It was a pleasure working with Thurgood Marshall Elementary School to give these hardworking moms a beautiful and functional new space."
"When Stacey and Sarah approached me about entering the contest, it brought to my attention that our nursing space was not an adequate place to pump. The school has grown so much over the past few years that every nook and cranny was occupied, and we were more focused on ensuring people had privacy rather than comfort," said Norman Kennedy, Principal of Thurgood Marshall Elementary School. "We're grateful for Tommee Tippee's help in changing the conversation surrounding the pump room at our school, and Project Nursery's help in redesigning the now comfortable and serene space."
"As designers and moms, we felt personally committed to designing a space that helps moms feel as comfortable as possible during their breastfeeding journey," said Melisa Fluhr, Co-Founder, Project Nursery. "Inspired by working moms, we designed a space that is not only encouraging with bold colors and inspiring artwork, but also soothing with soft accents and cozy details. It's the ideal pump room that these moms and educators need and deserve."
In addition to the redesign, Tommee Tippee encouraged workplace managers and business owners to take an online pledge to confirm their commitment to making positive changes to their pump room. The first 100 companies to take the pledge received a pledge pack, including a Pump and Go Complete Starter Set, bottles, tongue-in-cheek motivational posters, and more. This list of companies includes New Jersey's Atlantic Shore Medical, Missouri's Willard Parks and Recreation, Massachusetts' Salem Auto Body, Michigan's Davenport University and more.
