FRC Action President Tony Perkins Responds to Democrats' Refusal to Rule Out Lame-Duck Session
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Research Council Action President Tony Perkins said that a maneuver by congressional Democrats to block a resolution proposed by U.S. Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) to put Congress on the record opposing a lame-duck session this November and December "unveils the Democrats' commitment to advancing a radical social agenda no matter what."
More than 18,000 FRC supporters have so far signed a petition at www.dontbealameduck.com urging Congress to reject a lame-duck session.
Family Research Council Tony Perkins made the following comments:
"During the health care debate, we saw the Democratic Leadership go to new lows in legislative tomfoolery to enact their massive health care monstrosity. Now these same offenders of the Constitution are asking the American people to 'trust them' with a possible lame-duck session of Congress.
"Democratic leaders are most likely saving their most controversial agenda items until after the November election when voters are powerless to stop it. Unfortunately for the American people, this radical social agenda could include everything from forcing open homosexuality on the military and overturning the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) to attacking pregnancy care centers that offer hope to young women and their babies. They may also move to overturn the Hyde Amendment, which would further open the floodgates to taxpayer funding of abortion.
"Speaker Nancy Pelosi may also force a lame-duck vote on the 'Employment Non-Discrimination Act' (ENDA), also known as the Crossdresser Protection Act. The legislation would take the bedroom into the workplace and unfairly compel employers to learn about their employees' sexual lives. A lame-duck session may also include votes on 'card check' and cap-and-tax legislation. You can also expect some of the most notorious porkers in Congress to receive major parting gifts from the Appropriations Committee.
"I thank Rep. Price for introducing a resolution that counters this Congressional trickery. We will continue to join him and those who voted for his proposal in turning a spotlight on the Left's attempt to sneak its agenda through without accountability or respect for the voters," concluded Perkins.
