FRC Action Condemns U.S. Senate for Opposing House-Approved Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON, March 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Research Council Action, the legislative lobbying arm of the Family Research Council, expressed disappointment with the U.S. Senate for failing to adopt the full-year continuing resolution (CR) to fund the U.S. government while cutting spending. The House-passed resolution (H.R. 1) contained over 60 billion dollars in spending cuts, including millions of federal dollars to fund abortion giant Planned Parenthood and funds for D.C. abortions.

FRC Action will oppose any additional temporary Continuing Resolution that does not include these two pro-life provisions and include any such vote in our annual scorecard.

FRC Action President Tony Perkins made the following comments:

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is apparently more interested in protecting the federal gravy train that is feeding liberal advocacy groups like Planned Parenthood than he is in addressing the growing financial burden placed on the American family by out-of-control government spending.

"Unlike the U.S. House of Representatives, which focused on getting the U.S. economy back on track by cutting such wasteful spending as federal support for Planned Parenthood, Sen. Reid and his allies have shown once again that they care more about the political advantage of funding groups that support their Party than cutting wasteful spending and reducing the national deficit," concluded Perkins.
