Former Gov. Rendell to receive 2015 PA Society Gold Medal

ERDENHEIM, Pa., Sept. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell will receive the 2015 Pennsylvania Society Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement. Rendell will be presented the award at the Waldorf Astoria New York on Saturday, December 12, at the Society's annual Holiday Dinner.
"Governor Rendell has served the Commonwealth with intensive focus and trademark flare - as the District Attorney and Mayor of our largest city, and then as our 45th Governor," said Nicholas DeBenedictis, President of The Pennsylvania Society. "We are honored to have Governor Rendell receive the 2015 Gold Medal for his decades of accomplishments and commitment to our Commonwealth."
The Society's December dinner is an annual who's-who gathering of business and public figures and Society members from all around the world. The Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement was founded at the Society's dinner in 1908 and is awarded to a prominent person in recognition of leadership, citizenship and contributions to the arts, science, education and industry.

Gov. Rendell attended the University of Pennsylvania for undergraduate studies and received his Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law in 1968. Rendell was elected District Attorney of Philadelphia in 1977 and was elected Mayor of Philadelphia in 1991 and re-elected in 1995. In 2002, Rendell was elected Governor of Pennsylvania and was re-elected in 2006. He was chairman of the Democratic National Committee during the 2000 presidential election and even serves as a sports commentator in Philadelphia.
