Focus on HDTV: devolo Presents 500 Mbps Powerline and Vianect Air TV Wireless AV Solution at the IBC Trade Fair
Aachen, Germany-based devolo AG, the global market leader in powerline-based network solutions, is featuring its powerline and Wireless USB innovations at this year's International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam. The company's focus at the trade fair is the new powerline generation with speeds of 500 Mbps for reliable in-house triple play transmission and the introduction of a wireless video transmission solution under the new product trademark, Vianect.
AACHEN, Germany, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- devolo, the technological leader in the powerline market, is presenting its innovative products and solutions at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), being held from 9 to 14 September in Amsterdam. The world-renowned event is one of the world's leading trade fairs for broadcasting and Internet service providers. Each year, with the slogan of "By The Industry For The Industry", it reaches a highly qualified industry audience. In Hall 9, Stand IP311 on the grounds of the RAI Convention Center, devolo is highlighting two new product worlds at the same time: dLAN 500 and Vianect. The company is also providing information about its one-of-a-kind hybrid TV solution and is presenting the dLAN 200 AV Wireless N, a new dLAN adapter that expands the powerline world by adding a WLAN access point.
dLAN 500 – the new powerline standard for IPTV
With the dLAN 500, the company is unveiling the new dLAN generation for in-home powerline networks. The adapters, which are in compliance with the international IEEE 1901 standard, offer both a higher transmission rate of 500 Mbps and a longer range. This allows, for example, multiple HDTV channels to be transmitted simultaneously and retrieved throughout the home. Compared to alternative proprietary powerline solutions, the IEEE 1901 offers better performance and range. Thus the company also takes the FTTx efforts of Internet service providers into account, who are planning to make 100 Mbps broadband Internet available to European households via glass fibre in the near future. The first products of the new dLAN 500 generation are scheduled for market launch in December 2010.
Alongside the presentation of its dLAN 500 products, devolo is completing the dLAN 200 AV portfolio with the dLAN 200 AV Wireless N: The compact dLAN adapter is equipped with two internal WLAN antennas and enables WLAN zones to be set up quickly and easily for wireless surfing in the dLAN network. Support of the fast WiFi N standard ensures that the full dLAN bandwidth of 200 Mbps is used. In addition, the adapter has three Ethernet sockets and thus is the ideal product for operating multiple network-compatible devices on one dLAN adapter. The dLAN 200 AV Wireless N will be available at retail in October 2010.
Vianect – the new devolo trademark for wireless communication
With the Vianect trademark, devolo is laying the foundation for a new product segment with innovative solutions from the field of wireless communication. The first product bearing the new trademark is Vianect AIR TV, a new option for transmitting multimedia content from a laptop wirelessly to a big screen such as a flat-screen television or projector. The transmission is designed for HD signals with 720p or a resolution of 1,400 x 1,050 pixels. Vianect AIR TV is based on Wireless USB technology and thus is particularly easy to install. All the consumer has to do is plug the Wireless USB stick into the computer (PC/Mac) and connect the wireless receiver station with the screen via HDMI. The user is then all set to start using the television or projector like a second, large screen. The launch for devolo Vianect AIR TV is scheduled for September 2010.
Hybrid TV – the ideal combination of xDSL and satellite services
devolo is also presenting a turnkey, cost-efficient solution for hybrid TV via powerline at the IBC. Hybrid TV enables Internet service providers to provide comprehensive IPTV programming, even in regions with relatively poor broadband network infrastructure. While content for which latency and bandwidth are critical - such as that of the media library - continues to be loaded via the DSL network, live TV formats reach the house by satellite. The HomePlug Hybrid TV Set developed by devolo consists of a dLAN DVBS2 satellite TV system that ensures the distribution of the live TV signal throughout the house in Full HD quality via the power line. Moreover, dLAN is a scalable solution – additional tuners can be integrated without any problem. In addition to this tremendous flexibility, dLAN has a range of 300 meters in buildings, making it the cost-efficient solution for hybrid IPTV in all end customer scenarios.
"With the new dLAN 500 generation, devolo is reinforcing its expertise in the powerline segment and offering a cost-effective and efficient technology for distributing HDTV streams in the house," remarks Heiko Harbers, CEO of devolo AG. "We are also presenting Vianect AIR TV, a smart product that enables wireless transmission of multimedia data from a computer to a TV set via a USB interface."

About devolo AG
Competence by concentration. Since 2002, devolo AG has been developing innovative powerline products for private customers and commercial use. The dLAN product portfolio is based on the international HomePlug standards and makes it possible to create networks in buildings easily via the existing wiring, such as electrical wiring, coaxial cables and two-wire lines. While the SoHo line of products satisfies ever increasing customer demands for an all-encompassing connectivity solution for IT and CE products, business clients find in the dLAN line an ideal technology with which to retroactively integrate secure and stable network solutions into existing infrastructures. devolo invests its development resources exclusively for improving this technology by means of its own patented solutions—thus to provide dLAN products which offer even more power, more security, greater energy efficiency and are friendlier to the environment. This is how the internationally operated company has become the global leader. Numerous top-product test reviews and distinctions in the press, not to mention over seven million shipped adapters, substantiate devolo's success. On the market, devolo stands for powerline products that are as innovative as they are high in quality. As a sustainable trade company, devolo holds in high regard its responsibility towards its customers, its employees and the environment.
