FlyBoy Wakesurf Owner James Walker Wins 2010 World Wakesurfing Championships, Men's Pro Surf Division
Walker takes first on signature FlyBoy Wakesurf board
ACAMPO, Calif., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Riding a signature FlyBoy Wakesurf composite-sandwich construction board (http://flyboywakesurf.com), FlyBoy Wakesurf owner and team rider James Walker broke Shred Stixx's Chase Hazen's year-long winning streak to pull off a first-place finish last week in the 2010 World Wakesurfing Championships, Men's Pro Surf division.
The largest wakesurf tournament in the world, the World Wakesurfing Championships this year drew participants from eight different countries to the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis. For three days, the top professional and amateur wakesurfers competed in surf, skim and masters divisions. In the end, with an impressive run full of reverses, aerials and air 360s, Walker came out on top of the men's pro surf division – an achievement he attributes in part to FlyBoy Wakesurf boards' advanced composite-sandwich construction process.
Walker developed the proprietary process in a quest to create a wakesurf board that was both lightweight and durable. At the time, lightweight and responsive boards were easily dented and marred; boards that could stand up to heavy use simply weighed too much to work the way Walker wanted them to. So he came up with what is now known as the James Walker Signature Model FlyBoy Wakesurf board.
FlyBoy's composite-sandwich construction produces a wakesurf board that is tougher and lighter than epoxy wakesurf boards. Each FlyBoy board is crafted by hand using different densities of foam sandwiched between fiberglass. A lower density EPS foam core helps dampen energy and eliminates the need for a stringer down the middle of the board. The core is wrapped in higher density foam and fiberglass cloth, and the board is then wrapped with FlyBoy's proprietary closed-cell external skin. Finally, a hard fiberglass skin is added. The resulting wakesurf board strikes the perfect balance between strength and rebound, as evidenced by Walker's winning run.
"The men's pro surf was definitely a hotly contested division, and it went right down to the last trick," Walker stated. "But my FlyBoy Wakesurf board, with its amazingly light construction coupled with the drive of the Twinzer fin pod, gave me what I needed to finish first."
