LOS ANGELES, June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Flikdate, the "world's first mobile video dating app" (TechCrunch) announced today they have raised 350k USD from mbloom, backed by the Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation (HSDC). This makes Flikdate the first portfolio company for mbloom, along with two other parallel investments.
Flikdate will use these funds to launch Version 2.0, incorporating a new video platform, real-time chat, and video messaging. Along with the launch of the new version, Flikdate will be launching Los Angeles as its first major metropolitan center.
"Video is the evolution of chat and images; Flikdate has harnessed the success of Instagram, Vine and Skype. We enable you to get more personal to establish true compatibility," says Flikdate CEO Nick Bicanic. Flikdate will roll out key partnerships as it expands into other cities.
Flikdate's patent pending video and virtual currency technology is designed to encourage discovery of new connections and relationships, expanding the user base. The built-in gamification of the flirting process uses familiarity of photos into video format to generate heightened anticipation and connections.
"The mobile audience is shaping the "norm" for how people are talking and dating in today's society. Flikdate's video interface goes beyond Tinder and Whatsapp: this is the future. We have seen an incredible response to Flikdate from day one. Communicating by video is becoming as intuitive as taking a photo; we see huge growth in this sector." -- Arben Kryeziu, Managing Partner of mbloom.
Flikdate's CEO Nick Bicanic has a long history with interactive media: he was a recipient of the Young Nobel prize at age 15 for mixing an early form of wearable tech as a basketball player and his own prototype of movement tracking systems. Co founder Dominika Wolski is in film and social media, filling out the audible buzz that Silicon Beach is a hub for the most innovative new social technology.
The future for Flikdate's technology platform is changing the nature of social human relationships through mobile devices, breaking down the separation between texting and face-to-face communications. Flikdate's technology today is focused on the dating and relationship space, and has the potential to expand well beyond into online chat and messaging, the gaming space, and other markets.
