Five Points Shell changed owners in August 2014 after the previous owners no longer wanted to work in the industry. Hoang said that when he took over Five Points Shell, U-Haul was already established and proved to be a great source of revenue and customer traffic.

Hoang had seen the positive impact of the U-Haul affiliation as an employee at Five Point Shell before he took over, and he had contemplated opening a neighborhood dealership elsewhere had this opportunity not come along.

"It's a great chance for us to make some money," Hoang said.

With Norfolk's rich history and frequent changes thanks to its location along the Elizabeth River and mouth of Chesapeake Bay, Five Points Shell is in an ideal place to accommodate the moving needs of many with easy access to Interstate 64, Old Dominion University and Naval Station Norfolk.

Kennita Taylor, an assistant at Five Points Shell, said most of the customers that come into Five Points Shell are walk-ups.

"We are in a good area because a lot of people move," Taylor said. "We do a pretty good job with (the U-Haul equipment) we have now."
