Five Authors Honored with the SAE/AISI Sydney H. Melbourne Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Automotive Sheet Steel

WARRENDALE, Pa., July 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SAE International honored five individuals with the SAE/AISI Sydney H. Melbourne Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Automotive Sheet Steel.

Established in 1997, this award recognizes an author, who, in his/her paper, effectively demonstrates ways to further the use of sheet steel in automotive applications. Winning papers are those that are well organized, succinct, possess excellent technical merit, and foster long-term benefits to sheet steel industry professionals worldwide.

The award recipients include:

• Nobuhiro Tsuji, Professor, Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Kyoto University

The authors received the award for their paper "Mechanical Properties and Crash Worthiness of Ultrafine Grained Multi-Phase Steel Sheets for Automotive Body Applications." Tadashi Naito attended the 2011 SAE World Congress in Detroit, where he accepted the award on behalf of all his co-authors.
