fitlosophy Uses Social Media to GO RED and SPEAK UP Against Heart Disease
The first-ever BLOG YOUR HEART OUT campaign uses social media networks to create awareness throughout National Heart Month
COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- fitlosophy inc., the Orange County, California-based creators of fitbook, a revolutionary 12-week fitness and nutrition journal, is pleased to support the American Heart Association by sponsoring a 12-week BLOG YOUR HEART OUT campaign to create awareness and to encourage people to SPEAK UP against heart disease. This silent-killer is the #1 cause of death among women (and men), killing about 1 woman every minute, or approximately 450,000 women each year.
fitlosophy selected five bloggers to SPEAK UP and share their personal stories in an effort to raise awareness using the viral power of social media methods such as blogs, Twitter, and Facebook. The BLOG YOUR HEART OUT bloggers are using fitbooks to track their progress through the American Heart Association's BetterU program - a free online 12-week nutrition & fitness makeover. Readers are following these writers as they blog their way through the program while driving women to join the Go Red Movement online at GoRedForWomen.org.
In addition to the 12-week campaign, fitlosophy launched the inaugural BLOG YOUR HEART OUT DAY on February 12th where bloggers around the globe rallied to SPEAK UP against heart disease. The fitlosophy blogging team alone tallied 1726 blog views on the official BLOG YOUR HEART OUT blogs on this first-ever blog initiative. Bloggers worldwide joined the campaign to create awareness and share their personal stories, with over 458 people being directed to the Go Red For Women site in one day to join the movement.
"With nearly 90% of fitlosophy's customers being women, we consider it our responsibility and a blessing that fitlosophy has the opportunity to raise awareness and hopefully save lives in a very real way. Heart disease also runs in my family on both sides so this truly is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart," said Angela Manzanares, founder of fitlosophy, inc.
"The BLOG YOUR HEART OUT campaign has been a powerful component in or effort to create awareness of heart disease, which kills more women than the next five causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. We appreciate fitlosophy's support of our mission to encourage others to SPEAK UP about heart disease," said Dr. John Harold, President of the Los Angeles Division of the American Heart Association.
