- Protection of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The Bainimarama Government upholds the preservation of human rights as an absolute priority in creating an environment of progress. Fiji is proud to celebrate this important day and the ongoing efforts of the Government to improve the livelihoods of all Fijians, as exemplified by Fiji's 2012 economic plan.
These efforts also include Government's policies to:
- Outlaw institutionalized racism and other discriminatory practices;
- Codify equal rights for women;
- Provide open Internet access for all;
- Eliminate or cut taxes for 99 percent of taxpayers, putting money back in the hands of Fijians; and
- Enact extensive reforms on our path to the first elections in Fiji's history that will have universal suffrage—one person, one vote, one value.
Through these and other progressive reforms, Fiji continues to become an open and modern nation, attracting international attention and support. By empowering Fijians and strengthening its economy, Fiji aims to bring unlimited advancement and development opportunities to the country and the region.
