Fidget Spinner Association Condemns Fidget Spinner Ban in Schools
Launches Investigation Into Possible Rights Violations and Unlawful Taking of Private Property
NEW YORK, May 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fidget Spinner Association, an international advocacy organization supporting fidget spinners and the fidget spinner community, has condemned a ban of fidget spinners by schools in the United States. FSA has vowed to fight these bans locally and nationally with all its resources.
During the past month, dozens of schools in the United States, both public and private, have officially or unofficially banned the use of fidget spinners in class, or on school grounds. In many cases, fidget spinners have been confiscated by teachers and other school officials. In some cases the spinners have been returned, and in some cases the spinners have not been returned.
"FSA has launched an investigation into the actions of school officials, and we are currently exploring legal remedy to what we believe is an unlawful taking of private property," said Jill Dooley, Executive Director of FSA. "Fidget spinners are critical accessories for individuals with anxiety, ADHD, excess energy and fidgety hands."
FSA said that it would contact local, state and federal elected officials in affected districts to assert its position. The organization also may engage President Trump through Twitter, seeking a tweet of support for those impacted by the bans.
In addition to its lobbying and advocacy efforts, FSA independently reviews fidget spinners for quality and value. FSA also is the official sanctioning body of the World Fidget Spinner Championships, scheduled to be held in New York City in September of 2017. This event, which is open to amateur and professional spinners of all ages, will offer total prize purses of $10,000. The championships will have two age divisions -- 16 and under, and 17 and older. The event will feature four categories, including longest spin, hand toss, high toss, and freestyle.
