Fernando Abril-Martorell Appointed Deputy CEO and CFO of PRISA
Abril-Martorell will report to Grupo CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board, Juan Luis Cebrian. His responsibilities will include financial strategy, corporate development and efficiencies across the Group
MADRID and NEW YORK, Jan. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PRISA (Madrid: PRS; NYSE: PRIS) the world's leading Spanish and Portuguese-language education, entertainment and news group today announced that its CEO has appointed Fernando Abril-Martorell as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of the Group, starting 1 April, 2011. Fernando will report to the CEO Juan Luis Cebrian, who stated: "Fernando brings a wealth of relevant experience, talent and leadership to PRISA as the group enters the next stage of its development and will help ensure that it reaches its ambitious goals. Fernando's international experience spans both the corporate and financial world. He also has a strong reputation in the financial markets and I am delighted to welcome him to our executive team."
In his role Fernando will have responsibilities for the Group's overall financial strategy including corporate development, as well as those corporate functions seeking efficiencies, synergies and optimisation across the Group.
Fernando Abril-Martorell joins PRISA from Credit Suisse where he was CEO of Credit Suisse Spain and Portugal. The move sees him return to the corporate world following a very successful career at Telefonica, where he joined as CFO in 1997 and moved to CEO in 2000, a post he held until 2003.
During his tenure at Telefonica, Fernando participated in the company's privatization and oversaw its evolution into a global powerhouse with international growth in Latin America as well as various successful capital market transactions.
Fernando has extensive financial experience, as, in addition to his 6 years heading up Credit Suisse, he held the positions of Managing Director and Treasurer of JP Morgan in Spain over a 10 year period, prior to joining the Spanish telecoms giant. He holds a B.A. in Law and B.S. in Business Administration from ICADE (Madrid).
