Fellowship In Prayer Celebrates Religious and Cultural Diversity with Salman Ahmad, Pakistani 'Rock Star' and Goodwill Ambassador for Peace
PRINCETON, N.J., May 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fellowship in Prayer, a multi-faith Princeton-based nonprofit focused on 'prayer for peace', is marking its 60th Anniversary by hosting a conference, June 24-27, 2010 on the campus of Princeton University. PRAYER: An Answer for the 21st Century offers a unique opportunity to join others in identifying and claiming the values and practices within and across faith traditions that are foundational for peace, justice and global sustainability.
"Our world is deeply in need of interfaith cooperation," says Janet Haag, Fellowship in Prayer's Executive Director, "and we can think of no better way to mark our 60th anniversary than to invite people to join us in committing themselves to social change based on a broad, inclusive spiritual and social consciousness." Gustav Niebuhr, Sister Joan Chittister, and Zen Master Bernie Glassman are only three among an impressive line-up of multi-faith visionaries who will be speaking at the conference.
On Saturday evening, June 26th, conference-goers and other guests will enjoy a 60th Anniversary Gala, including a banquet and concert. Representative Rush Holt will be presented with the Fellowship in Prayer Luminary Award for his work in bringing together his constituents of different faiths for common cause. The anniversary concert will be headlined by Salman Ahmad, the founder and lead singer from the hugely successful band Junoon which the New York Times has called "the U2 of Pakistan." In addition to his status as a 'rock star,' Ahmad is also a world-renowned goodwill ambassador for peace and justice. He will share the performance stage with The Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble, the Ed Goldberg Klezmer Band and the Lavender Light Gospel Choir.
