Felician College Officially Becomes Felician University; Petition to Change Name Approved by New Jersey's Secretary of Education
University Receives National Science Foundation Grant to Establish a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cyber Defense
RUTHERFORD, N.J. and LODI, N.J., Nov. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The president and the Board of Trustees of Felician College today announced it has officially changed its name to Felician University following approval by New Jersey's Secretary of Education.
"Our vision of becoming a university spans many years and has only been made possible by the hard work and steadfast commitment of our Felician Sisters, dedicated faculty, staff, alums and supporters," said Felician president, Dr. Anne Prisco. "The State's approval makes it official, but what has occurred today is simply that our name caught up with what Felician has already become."
University designation more accurately reflects Felician's range and quality of academic offerings. It offers more than 16 graduate programs across all disciplines and two doctoral programs in addition to strong undergraduate programs in arts and sciences, business, education and nursing. A student/faculty ratio of 14:1, average class size of 15 students and personalized, one-on-one instruction signify Felician's commitment to its Franciscan mission and values and emphasizes the University's nurturing, caring spirit.
Felician was recently ranked by Money Magazine as one of America's Top Colleges and also listed among Money's top 25 private colleges for merit aid.
Further emphasizing its stature as a university, Felician recently received a grant from the National Science Foundation to establish a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cyber Defense. Felician will use the grant to increase the number and diversity of undergraduate and graduate students studying cyber security at Felician, thus helping to build a workforce of skilled professionals to thwart cybercrime and develop more effective prevention strategies.
