FEC Automation Systems Opens First International Office
Growth in North America Spurs European Office Opening
SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. and LONDON, June 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ron Jaeger spent 25 years as an employee at FEC Automation Systems when the company was owned by Daichi-Dentsu LTD. When he and his wife, Susie, acquired the company in December, 2012, they saw opportunities to grow the already successful business by expanding into new markets.
Their first attempt to prove their theory comes with the opening of the company's first European office in Chelmsford, England, 32 miles northeast of London. David Cloake, an industry veteran who spent over 25 years in a variety of management positions at Ford, Toyota and other automotive companies, will lead FEC's European operations.
"The auto industry is thriving now, even in Europe, and the demands on suppliers like us continue to multiply. We see opportunities to grow our business by going after it more aggressively and being more accessible locally," says Jaeger. "We already have customers in England, Romania and Germany and we're talking about meaningful opportunities in Russia. Chelmsford is a small office but it will give us a European base and allow us to be quicker and more responsive to existing and potential customers."
Jaeger cited the combination of a high number of new automotive product launches planned in the next several years and the fact that many automotive suppliers were forced to downsize during the recent recession as additional impetus for FEC's new office. He said the company has immediate plans to hire additional staff and ultimately hopes to add service and assembly capacity in Europe. "We know we have an outstanding product and proven processes and if the demand's there as we expect it will be, we'll go after the business," he says.
FEC manufactures and installs fastening and assembly equipment for many of the world's leading automakers including Honda, Kia, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and hundreds of suppliers. In addition to its automotive business, FEC is beginning to expand into health care, aerospace, off-road equipment, appliances and other industries that require precision machinery.
