FDNY Foundation Honors United Technologies Chairman & CEO Louis Chenevert

HARTFORD, Conn., May 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The FDNY Foundation has presented its annual Fire Commissioner's Humanitarian Award to United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) Chairman & CEO Louis Chenevert in recognition of the company's generous and longtime support for fire prevention and public safety in New York City.  

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) is the largest municipal fire department in the U.S. and protects more than 8 million residents.  UTC companies have a distinguished history of supporting the FDNY over many years. Since 1987, every recruit to go through the FDNY fire academy has trained on a Kidde Fire Trainer simulator.  Since 2002, Kidde Residential & Commercial has supported WABC-TV on the Operation Save A Life program, donating 180,000 smoke alarms to the FDNY for distribution to families in need. Kidde is a unit of UTC Fire & Security.

The FDNY Foundation also honored members of the FNDY USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) Team, who were commended for their work to help the people of Haiti following the recent earthquake disaster there.

As the official fundraising vehicle for the FDNY, the Foundation works collaboratively with the Fire Department to support its most crucial priorities: reducing firefighter and civilian deaths and injuries.
