Fallen Silver Star Marine's Father Travels to Iraq to Meet with Iraqi Army, Visit Outpost Named for Son
1st Lt. Travis Manion was Killed Defending an Enemy Ambush – Gold-Star Parent to Meet with Members of the Iraqi Army in Iraq
PHILADELPHIA, May 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On May 12, 2010, US Marine Corps Col. (Ret.) Tom Manion will be heading to Iraq to meet with members of the Iraqi Army who his Fallen son, US Marine 1st Lt. Travis Manion was embedded with before he was killed in April 2007. Col. Manion will be visiting Combat Outpost Manion, one of only a few outposts the Iraqi's have ever named in honor of an American. He will be traveling with Lt. Col. Joel Poudrier who fought alongside 1st Lt. Manion in Iraq, as well as Corey Wascinski, a documentary film maker who has worked previously for the History Channel, and Mary Katharine Ham, a journalist for the Weekly Standard and Fox News analyst.
The group will be staying at Camp Victory near Baghdad, and will also be traveling to Fallujah to see where Travis was working as part of a Military Transition Team to help train the Iraqi Army. While at Camp Victory, Col. Manion will meet with members of the Iraqi Army.
