EYEPOWER™ Solution Helps Customer Win Asia-Pacific's 'Most-Sustainable Hotel' Title
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Crowne Plaza Alice Springs won unanimous recognition as Asia-Pacific's most environmentally sustainable hotel after installing an Energy Eye guestroom energy management system.
Awarded at the 2010 Asia Pacific Hotel Investment Conference (HICAP) in Hong Kong, the decision panel included judges from a number of prestigious organizations, including the National Geographic Society and the World Wildlife Fund. First established in 2007, the award is designed to recognize a superior commitment to sustainable business practices within the hospitality industry.
"It's exciting to see our environmental sustainability initiatives validated and recognized," said Investnorth principal and hotel owner Lloyd Berger. Berger accepted the award, and was accompanied by Intercontinental Hotel Group's Chief Development Officer for Asia-Pacific, Tony South.
"We are so pleased that the Crowne Plaza Alice Springs was recognized in such a prestigious way," said Phillip Kopp, Chief Operating Officer of Energy Eye, Inc. "While we are just one part of the property's overall sustainability program, the EYEPOWER™ Solution provides a critical leaping-off point for projects of this magnitude. By virtue of its low cost and fast payback, EYEPOWER™ not only reduces energy consumption and the associated expenses, but also serves to support the more capital-intensive portions of large energy management projects like this one."
Indeed, the Crowne Plaza Alice Springs invested more than $3.6 million in a range of energy-efficiency efforts, including a 1,326-panel solar photovoltaic installation, gas reduction programs, lighting conversions and water-saving technologies.
The Energy Eye portion - while representing a tiny fraction of the overall investment required - has generated compelling results. Savings of more than 264,475 kilowatt hours can be tied directly to the EYEPOWER™ Solution in this project.
"Seeing a customer recognized in this fashion is extremely gratifying," said Doron Danon, Managing Partner of Smart Hotel Solutions and exclusive distributor of Energy Eye products in Australia. "When we began the project, Mr. Berger made his vision clear - to not only save on energy expense, but also to set an example for the rest of the hotel industry. We're so proud to have helped him achieve this audacious goal."
The EYEPOWER™ solution - independently tested and certified to save 15-35% on HVAC energy usage - delivers its results via the application of occupancy, door, and window sensors, plus thermostat control. And because the EYEPOWER™ solution is thermostat-neutral, hotel owners can easily integrate the system into their existing HVAC systems.
