EyeBuyDirect.com and Feed The Children Team Up to Help Children and Their Families See the World Through Healthier Eyes
Over 10,000 Families In the U.S. to Receive Free Prescription Eyeglasses
AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading online value-priced eyewear retailer EyeBuyDirect.com (EBD), today announced that it has partnered with Feed The Children to provide over 10,400 pairs of prescription glasses to children and adults in impoverished communities who might not otherwise have access to necessary corrective eyewear. EyeBuyDirect's donation will be distributed by non-profit organization Feed The Children and administered through eye clinics managed by Medical Director, Dr. Larry Biehler. Dr. Biehler has led over 135 healthcare teams throughout the U.S and abroad to provide general health services and eye exams to those in need.
"Glasses can be very expensive, and for people living on meager incomes, they are often forced to make a decision to buy either food or glasses. That's not a decision that anyone should have to make, so we're grateful for EyeBuyDirect's generous donation," said Dr. Biehler. "We're absolutely thrilled with the quality of the glasses. They're new, clean and come in a sturdy case with a cleaning cloth, which means that our patients will have access to comfortable and desirable eyeglasses."
Nearly 1 in 4 children in the United States and 2.5 billion people worldwide require vision correction but do not receive it. Due to lack of financial resources or access to eye care professionals; many suffer from impaired vision. This number is predicted to grow to 3.2 billion by 2050. For underserved children, the lack of eye care and vision correction can lead to social, educational and economic disadvantages. The Vision Impact Institute, which analyzes the social and economic impact of this problem on countries across the globe, has shown that children who do not receive proper vision correction exhibit a decrease in class participation and self-confidence and an increase in disruptive behavior. Also, a child with poor vision is exponentially more likely to drop out of school as a result of chronically reduced academic performance.
"We believe that everyone should have access to clear vision," said Roy Hessel, CEO, EyeBuyDirect.com. "We provide affordable frames and prescription lenses to ensure broad consumer access to corrective eye wear. It is our mission to provide help to various communities and populations in need of glasses through Feed The Children and other organizations; and we offer affordable, high quality glasses every single day for those who might have greater resources, but no less a need for quality corrective eye wear."
"At Feed the Children, we believe in a world where no child goes to bed hungry -- a world in which kids grow up wide-eyed, curious, playful, eager to learn, strong, joyful, and full of dreams," said Kevin Hagan, Feed the Children president and CEO. "But we know that in order for them to enjoy life as kids, they need access to basic health resources, including eyewear. We're incredibly proud to partner with EyeBuyDirect.com who shares in the importance of our work to help kids be kids around the world."
The next Feed The Children eye clinic will occur on September 20, 2014 at El Reno Trinity Baptist Church, 1201 E. Rogers St., El Reno, Oklahoma at 8:15 a.m.
