CINCINNATI, March 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Ethicon* is setting a new standard for sealing performance in advanced energy devices with the launch of the ENSEAL® X1 Large Jaw Tissue Sealer, the first in a new generation of ENSEAL® devices. ENSEAL® X1 Large Jaw Tissue Sealer has shown better sealing than LigaSure Impact™ through less bleeding1, less thermal spread2 and better ergonomics3. The device is a demonstration of Ethicon's commitment to improving the surgeon experience and is designed to meet the demands of open procedures such as colectomies and hysterectomies.
The ENSEAL® X1 Large Jaw Tissue Sealer was carefully designed to enhance surgeons' efficiency and comfort and is indicated for use in open general, gynecologic, urologic, thoracic, and vascular procedures by offering better hemostasis, better tissue management, and better ergonomics. With a larger distal electrode surface area4, powered by the Ethicon generator with Adaptive Tissue Technology, the ENSEAL® X1 Large Jaw Tissue Sealer had 88% less bleeding in thick tissue compared to LigaSure Impact™1 and 41% less thermal spread2. An overall better design compared to LigaSure Impact™3 offers separate seal and cut functionally and convenient control placement designed for less hand movement5, and 360° shaft rotation is intended to improve access to targeted tissue.6
"I really like the ergonomics, the weight of the instrument, the ease of closure, and also the ease of advancement of the blade to cut through thick tissue," says James Kondrup**, M.D., Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY. "This will allow my team and me to stay more focused on the patient and the procedure at hand. The ENSEAL® X1 Large Jaw will be an excellent addition to our toolbox for performing open and vaginal hysterectomies."
With the addition of ENSEAL® X1 Large Jaw Tissue Sealer, Ethicon provides customers access to the most comprehensive Advanced Energy devices portfolio from a single supplier. The ENSEAL® X1 Large Jaw is compatible with the existing Ethicon GEN11 Generator and can replace other products or provide an alternative to existing Ethicon advanced bipolar devices to deliver greater value for the health system.
"ENSEAL X1 is the latest example of how Ethicon is advancing technology to give surgeons greater control, access, and accuracy during surgical procedures in an effort to improve outcomes for patients," says Michael del Prado, Company Group Chairman, Ethicon.
