"With Fusion-io acceleration for SAP solutions, enterprises around the world are creating more time by running their SAP solutions faster," said Sean Hehir, Fusion-io Vice President of Strategic Business Development. "Armed with information from reports processed in minutes rather than hours, enterprises can make decisions more quickly to adapt to real-time business opportunities. Customers around the world are already achieving business success with offerings from SAP and from Fusion-io. Providing comprehensive medical care for 1.5 million people, University Hospital Würzburg is one of Germany's oldest hospitals. The hospital runs on a medical information system based on the SAP ERP application and used by thousands of doctors, nurses, scientists, and administrators.
To improve performance and support new SAP features, the hospital IT team migrated its entire database, including the temporary tables, onto mirrored Fusion ioMemory, improving response times for thousands of users. The solution reduced capital costs 33 percent and delivered 2-5x faster processing in the SAP ERP system, keeping hospital staff working rather than waiting.
Even during the upgrade stage, the speed of ioMemory minimized the hospital's downtime to under two hours, rather than the five hours expected for the upgrade. Klaus Stärk, head of IT systems in the hospital, said, "The Fusion ioDrive2s made everything two to five times faster on average, and in fact, the improvement is noticeable to the naked eye."
Based in Australia, RCR Tomlinson Ltd is a leading integrated engineering solutions provider that provides turnkey solutions to the mining, energy, resources, and power sectors throughout the Asia Pacific region. Led by ITC Infrastructure Manager Stacey Squire, the RCR Tomlinson IT team decided to centralize operations to improve hardware efficiency, create a common user experience, and streamline infrastructure management.
Squire's team virtualized all RCR Tomlinson business applications on blade servers with Microsoft Hyper-V and Fusion ioMemory. Implementing ioMemory gave RCR Tomlinson a more powerful and efficient virtualized infrastructure with archiving that is 9x faster, with OpenText ECM Suite for SAP Solutions. A large archive that historically took three hours or more now runs in just 20 minutes on the Fusion Powered blade server, enabling employees to get more work done, armed with critical reports in minutes instead of hours.
